If you are planning to bring your own boat, motor or canoe, we suggest you describe it to us describing its construction length, width (and weight if possible) and obtain our opinion as to its suitability for transport by aircraft. Final approval can only be given upon its inspection upon arrival at our float plane base. Motors should be made ready for transportation by aircraft by removing all gasoline from any internal fuel tank in the motor. Gasoline for your motor should be contained in any conventional approved fuel container that does not leak. Fuel container should only be filled to 85% capacity. We reserve the right at our discretion to refuse to transport a boat or canoe or fuel container that is unsuitable for aircraft transportation. Don't forget to bring paddles and life jackets and approved emergency equipment as required by the Province Of Ontario.

This is a self guided tent camping fishing and exploring package where you bring all of your own equipment, including tent, food and fishing tackle You supply a boat or canoe or take one of ours if available. We will rent you a satellite phone for emergency calls. We will choose your tent camp location on a beautiful beach with sheltered camp site on a deserted lake or on a river depending upon your fishing expectations. There are literally hundreds to choose from. Flights to your campsite will be a maximum 30 minute flight or less from our base camp. Because we are only providing your flights in an out of camp, the time you stay in country is up to you. Our only restriction is that we have to move your camp site a hundred yards or so down the beach every twenty days! So you can choose the length of your trip anytime from about May 1st to October 15th. Walleye fishing Tent Camp North Of 50 allows Access to hundreds Of Lakes and Streams where the current generation of fish have probably never seen a fisherman before. They can be found North Of Latitude 50. The fishing here is as good as it was in the time before man. Getting Here - Arrival and Scheduling

Your all inclusive trip with West Caribou Air begins at Savant Lake Ontario. Arrive at least one hour in advance of your departure time.

It takes about an hour for pilot and guide introductions, for your preflight briefing and to load the aircraft. You must arrive at least one hour before your scheduled 'Latest Possible Departure Time'. If you arrive in either Sioux Lookout at such an hour that you cannot arrive at our float plane base at Savant Lake one hour before your 'Latest Possible Departure Time', you will have to arrive a day early and stay overnight in a hotel at your expense. There five hotels in Sioux Lookout and one hotel in Savant Lake.

It takes time for your guide to set up your outpost camp when you arrive at your fly-in fishing destination North of 50. We recommend an early or mid morning departure from our Savant Lake Ontario float plane base. In mid summer, our 'Latest Possible Departure time' is about 6:00 PM. In the fall, our latest departure time is about 4:00 PM. The flight to your North Of 50 tent outpost camp and fishing can take from 20 to 30 minutes. You need to insure that your arrival time at your tent outpost camp is early enough to set up your camp. You must confirm the 'Latest Possible Departure time' for your trip. Like any airline, we also have hourly schedules and commitments made in advance to our clients so you must insure that you arrive at our float plane base at the agreed upon hour or risk missing your departure window. Upon such an event, it may cause a delay of many hours or even a day to reschedule your departure time.

Arriving By Commercial Airline at Sioux Lookout:

You can fly to us by commercial airline. Fly to Thunder Bay Ontario or Winnipeg Manitoba and book a connecting flight offered by either Bearskin Airlines or Wasaya Airlines, to Sioux Lookout Ontario. Rent a car to drive to Savant lake or we will have you picked up at Sioux Lookout and return you to Sioux Lookout at the end of your trip for a total cost $270.00.

Connecting flights to Sioux Lookout are available from Thunder Bay Ontario or Winnipeg Manitoba using Bearskin Airlines 807-485-2441 http://www.bearskinairlines.com/. Wasaya Airlines 1-877-492-7292 http://www.wasaya.com/. The flights are approximately One hour and fifteen minutes and one hour and fifty minutes respectively.

Your package begins at Savant Lake. It takes an hour or so to travel from Sioux Lookout to our float plane base at Savant Lake. Therefore any parties not able to arrive at Sioux Lookout earlier than noon on departure day must plan arrive a day early and stay at a hotel overnight in Sioux Lookout. Rent a car from Sioux Lookout for a week and drive to Savant Lake or we will have you picked up at your hotel about 9:00 am on the day of departure and drive you and your party to our float plane base at Savant Lake. Total cost to be picked up at and returned to Sioux Lookout by our method is $270.00 for a party of four.

Our Package Description

Our North of 50 fly-in fishing tent camping trip includes the trip to and the trip from your fly-in tent outpost fishing camp with your boat or canoe. Transportation is provided by our own Norseman Aircraft or Cessna 185 float plane. You will be able to erect your tent on a wilderness beach or on the banks of a suitable river or stream. Depending on the time of year, you might consider bringing a suitable heating stove, sufficient stove pipe and a suitable non combustible through tent stove pipe ring. Make sure that all you your equipment has been thoroughly tested before you begin your trip.

Speckled Trout are the main species to be caught, followed by Walleye, and Northern Pike, Lake Trout and Sturgeon. You can tell us your preference. Speckles in the 6 to 8 pound range are typical. Speckles can be fished with light spin cast tackle or fly rods. You can bring both.

This is a self guided fly-in trip of as many days as you like with boat or canoe. You supply the boat, motor, all food, bait, ice and supplies including emergency equipment. You can't catch trophy fish on a lake, a river or a stream at any latitude where there is a fixed outpost camp as all the trophies would have been taken long ago. We spend a lot of time looking for and testing suitable unnamed lakes and streams for spectacular fishing. They can only be found where man has never fished before.

You furnish all the utensils, propane cooking stove, Coleman lanterns, saws, food, and everything else it takes to make a completely furnished camp.

Fishing Pressure

We take our fishing party clients to a tent camp location two or three times and then we move our camps to an entirely new location. We move before all the senior fish have been caught. Catching a trophy is a thrill but the trophy fishing can't last if we keep going back for more. We leave to give the remaining senior fish time to spawn new generations of large fish. If we were to take all the trophies, we would damage the gene pool. We move to a new location sooner than later. We do not return for at least two years until a younger generation of fish has grown large! This is our policy.

Outpost Camp Locations

Our lakes and streams are not named and we don't publicize their locations except to our customers upon their arrival an when making required Transport Canada Flight Notifications. We will discuss suitable locations with you on the telephone anytime. We only reveal the exact location once you arrive at our float plane base.

Your fly-in fishing destination and campsite location is selected when we understand what fish species you would like to pursue and what other considerations should be made to accommodate the interests, experience and skills of your party. Except for river locations, all camps are located on a sheltered campsite next to a beautiful wilderness beach. A written record of your destination, including GPS coordinates is on file in our management office. Your official flight itinerary and flight notification is a matter of record required by the Canadian Federal Government and is properly logged before you leave our float plane base.
